Mazda 323: The last "three hundred"
Mazda3 is very popular among domestic motorists. With its advent, the cost of its predecessor - the latest generation of "three hundred and twenty-third" - has noticeably decreased. Is it worth it? And in general, what is the Mazda 323?
The hallmark of the previous two generations of the Mazda 323 was the individual design of each of the modifications with different bodies - they all differed significantly not only outside, but also inside. On the one hand, such "diversity" allowed each buyer to choose the most suitable option from an aesthetic point of view, but on the other hand, it caused a headache when looking for body parts. In the latest generation of the Mazda 323 (body index BJ), the creators decided to abandon this feature: the 5-door hatchback (with the F index) and the 4-door sedan (S) differed only in the back. By the way, thanks to the almost vertical trunk lid, the “5-door” is very similar to the stat 2004 mazda 323 ion wagon.
But with a 3-door hatchback (P), the situation is somewhat different - it is noticeably different from the rest. The fact is that in fact this modification was created back in 1996, that is, during the release of the predecessor Mazda 323 (BA), and its production continued in parallel with the release of the heroine of our story until 2000, when the "5-door" and the sedan have been restyled (see photo). Due to low demand for the hatchback, its production was discontinued.
All Mazda 323 (BJ) were produced in Japan, and only two versions were officially delivered to our country - the F hatchback and the S sedan. According to the specialists of the branded service station, the paint often chipped off and the arches of the rear fenders rusted. In order to avoid problems, it is desirable to additionally protect these places with anti-corrosion materials.
The basic versions, given that they were "Japanese", were quite poor and were equipped only with a central lock, power steering and a driver's airbag. However, such cars, as a rule, were purchased by various companies as traveling vehicles and are not often found in our country. Most of the cars are quite decently equipped - in addition to the above equipment, they have power windows, electric drive and heated exterior mirrors, a passenger airbag (less often, also side ones), air conditioning and ABS.
Please note: "three hundred and twenty-third" has a number of useful features that cannot be found in most competitors. So, for example, in hatchbacks and expensive versions of sedans, the front passenger seat back folds forward, so you can get a comfortable camping table. For greater comfort for rear passengers, the angle of inclination of the separate backrests is adjusted. In hatchbacks, the rear seat is mounted on a skid and moves back and forth by 16 cm! Thanks to this, if necessary, you can increase the supply of free space from the knees of passengers to the backs of the front seats or the useful volume of the trunk.
Compared to its predecessor, there are no comments on the visibility of the Mazda 323 (BJ), but there are some comments on sound insulation. So, stronger than we would like, the engine is heard, and with increasing speed - the noise from the road.
Officially, only petrol versions were imported to Ukraine (with the exception of the weakest 1.3-liter). Most often we have 1.5- and 1.6-liter versions.
In general, most of the power units of the "three hundred and twenty-third" are reliable and, with timely maintenance, can go about 300 thousand km before replacing the rings. True, they differ in insufficiently high liter capacity. During operation, problems were noted only with 1.5-liter units. So, according to servicemen, electronic ignition modules in these engines fail (a spare part is about $40), oil can flow from under the engine pan gasket and air flow meters become clogged. Although the owners themselves are to blame for the last malfunction, untimely changing the air filter. It manifests itself in the deterioration of acceleration dynamics and dips during acceleration, and is eliminated by cleaning the flow meter.
For all engines, the gas distribution mechanism is driven by a belt, which must be changed together with the tension and bypass rollers every 100 thousand km (when using non-original parts, it is recommended to reduce the period to 60 thousand km). To increase the reliability of the timing, the creators decided to abandon the use of hydraulic lifters, so over time, all engines need to
